On Wednesday 12 February 2014 at 12noon Rotorua Museum will host a floortalk by Matatoki co-curators Karl Chitham and Eugene Kara.

Rotorua Museum Art Curator Karl Chitham and Waiariki Institute of Technology lecturer and carver Eugene Kara will talk about the inspiration behind the exhibition and how it came together.

Matatoki – Contemporary Maori Carving features the work of some of the very best internationally-recognised contemporary Māori carvers in New Zealand.

Each of the artists in this exhibition has developed a strong individual style that has been embraced by collectors and galleries from around the world. The result of this interest is that much of their work is leaving Aotearoa or going directly into private collections. Matatoki is an opportunity for local audiences to see the incredible skill and diversity of art being produced by these talented individuals.

Entry to both this event and the exhibition is included in Rotorua Museum’s admission price. Adults $20, seniors $18 and children $8. Entry for Rotorua residents is free of charge with relevant ID.
