Meet the Royal Spoonbill Kayak Tour

A two hour easy kayak tour (suitable for families and beginners)

Now is your chance to meet the royal spoonbills in their home on the Wairau and Opawa Rivers! These stunning birds will be dressed up in their breeding plumage. They make a great photographic study.
The spoonbill safari will be a two hour guided trip by kayak departing from the end of Dillon’s Point Road, Blenheim.

Local wildlife photographer Will Parsons can give you tips on photographing birds in their natural environment. You may be lucky enough to sight some of the amazing bar tailed godwit who have recently returned from the Arctic Circle.

Will is a registered DOC concessionaire.

Age suitability: All persons under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Children must be six or older and be able to swim.

Kayaks: Double kayaks are available and all kayaks are chosen for their stability.

Experience: No past kayaking experience required.

- All kayaking gear including life vest. Driftwood is an audited tourism provider.
- Short lesson on basic kayak skills. You won't be left behind, you will have help and support all the way.
- A two hour water safari with a guide knowledgeable to the area.
- Close encounters with waders and other wetland birds. Other wildlife maybe identified such as ferrets, trout, whitebait, water rats and white baiters!
- You can bring your own picnic to share either before or after the tour. You can meet our alpaca family too.
- Prizes! For each tour we draw one lucky person who will win one of our cool Driftwood Bandanas.
- There are limited kayaks so book now to avoid disappointment.

Registration is essential, all tours are weather dependant and maybe postponed. Fee $50.00pp
