In 2013 the Renaissance Singers proved its versatility in its presentation of Music With a Smile, a programme of well-known and lighter music that reviewer Stephen Fisher believed could “only add to the excellent reputation of this choir in our community.” The Choir returns to delight lovers of fine melody in a programme of unashamed nostalgia for “the way we were”, “as time goes by.”

The memories will be mostly those that come from the Stage and the Screen. With its own memories of last year’s enthusiastically received semi-staged performance of Gilbert and Sullivan’s Trial by Jury, the Choir will sing extracts from The Mikado, and a selection of well-known songs and choruses from The Pirates of Penzance, as well as choruses by Jerome Kern, Meredith Willson and Richard Rogers.

The memories theme is also to the fore in music for such movies as Casablanca, The Way We Were, Annie Get Your Gun, The Wizard of Oz, and even The Muppets Movie. There will be plenty of music for a smile, and also possibly even for the occasional tear.
