Originally from the UK, Mike started his foray into music and entertainment at the tender age of nine. Schooled in North Wales, by the age of seventeen he was living in West London, supporting his education busking the underground. Continued performing at various folk clubs throughout the UK, before embarking in the mid seventies on his first busking tour of Europe.

This adventure ignited the wandering spirit and in 1978 he took off to explore the Americas, South, Central and North, writing and playing wherever possible to support a meagre existence. Settling in Canada as a minstrel at the Medieval Inns, Vancouver, it was here that an interest in traditional celtic based folk music took hold.

After nearly two years the wandering began again with a busking tour of New Zealand and then onto Australia. In Australia he was a convict minstrel at Old Sydney Town (a purpose built re-creation of the original Sydney, re-enacting the colonial occupation!) This led to researching the culture of the innocent free labour, collecting, performing, recording and promoting the songs and dance music, marriage and a family.

Now an Australian citizen, he continues to write “with a voice to tweak us, to remind us, to move us, yet one that also comes at us on our level, not from any assumed higher ground. A voice that coaxes us into seeing things differently, sometimes with a laugh, sometimes with a tear, sometimes with a touch of razzamatazz. The street is where it all began for him, and ... one can hear that he hasn’t forgotten”. (quote from a review by Michael Menager.)
