'Moana & the Tribe were the most powerful, enjoyable and important act on the mainstage at this years Womad delivering a thumping, visually powerful and cleverly calculated implosion of waiata, haka and electronic-flavoured soul-funk.’ (N.Z Herald)

Having released albums Tahi, Rua, Toru, Wha and Live & Proud (DVD) and a retrospective album, Moana teamed up with band member Paddy Free (Pitch Black) to produce and co-write her 5th album RIMA.

‘Free steers much of the album into a new genre of waiata-dub and punchy dancefloor directed songs where politics and te reo slip in effortlessly. RIMA is a powerful and important collection. Highly recommended.' (G.Reid, NZ Herald)

Formed in 2002, Moana & the Tribe has played hundreds of concerts from Istanbul, Moscow, Florence, Berlin, Warsaw, Venice, Shanghai, Seoul, Vienna to Toronto and Taipei. They have performed at the Herodus Atticus (Athens), Sydney Opera House (Australia), Montreux Jazz Festival (Switzerland) and Sziget (Budapest). In July, they collaborated with Scottish, and indigenous Australian musicians to play in and around Glasgow 2014.

Now this 8 piece band whose music slips and slides across genre ‘creating dub-ambient-soul-funk from nowhere else but right here, right now' are taking their unique sound to Waiheke Island on Sat, Nov 1.

Joining them is 20 year old Te Karehana Toi-Gardiner, performing a set of his own original compositions. A student of Contemporary Music at Unitec, T.K is also a finalist in the search for Soulfest's opening act.
