The Navy's Inshore Patrol Vessel HMNZS Hawea will open her doors to the community as part of the Staying Alive Volunteer and Emergency Services open day.

Members of the public are warmly invited to visit HMNZS Hawea during the day's activities. The crew will be ready to welcome you onboard, so why not make the most of this chance to see New Zealand's Navy in action!

Hawea will be open from 10am- 4pm, last guests will be invited onboard at 3.30pm.

Hosted by the NZ Fire Service, the Staying Alive and Emergency Services open day give the public a rare opportunity to experience firsthand the role that Emergency Services and volunteer support groups play in the community. The open day will include home fire safety demonstrations, USAR displays, Kids Combat Challenge, Civil Defence, and Police Dog displays.

The IPVs work around New Zealand's coast line doing border patrol and surveillance, protecting our fisheries and supporting the work of Customs, Police, the Ministry of Primary Industries (Fisheries) and Department of Conservation.
