New Zealand Post staff will take part in a Tribute March on 4 August in Wellington to remember the Post and Telegraph workers who served in the First World War.

Members of the public are invited to watch the march from Queens Wharf (across the road from Post Office Square) along the waterfront to Te Papa.

More than 3,000 Post and Telegraph staff served overseas. 234 died as a result of the Great War. New Zealand Post Group employees have volunteered to take part in the 4 August Tribute March to pay respect to those staff who served and those who lost their lives.

After the march, there will be a private Ceremony of Remembrance at Te Papa. New Zealand Post will then officially launch its five year programme of stamp and coin issues commemorating the First World War. The first issue “1914 For King and Empire” tells the story of serviceman and every man, Melville Mirfin.
