Mozart - Violin Concerto No. 4
Mahler - Symphony No. 9

Edo De Waart - conductor
Simone Lamsma - violin

Concert duration: 2h07

If any music could break your heart, it would be the opening minutes of Mahler’s overwhelming Symphony No. 9. Composed after the death of his daughter, and the diagnosis of his own fatal heart disease, the symphony is nostalgic, urgent and achingly glorious. Such an emotional tempest is soothed by the radiant melodies of Mozart’s Violin Concerto No.4. Gracefully expressive, Mozart’s singing phrases pour from the violin of Simone Lamsma, a stunning musician with a technical mastery that enables her to fully embrace his musical world. Eminent Dutch conductor and renowned Mahler specialist Edo de Waart brings together the transcendent music of both Mozart and Mahler in a transformative experience that will linger long after the music ends.

Free pre-concert talk 45 minutes prior to concert.
