Visiting pianist Junghwa Lee presents a recital of works by French composers and contemporary composer Frank Stemper. The programme will consist of:

Improvisation and Menuet pompeux from Pièces pittoresques (1880) by Emmanuel Chabrier (1841-1894), Prélude, Choral et Fugue (1884) by César Franck (1822-1890), Allegro Appassionato, Op. 70 (1874) by Camille Saint-Saëns (1835-1921) and Piano Sonata No.2 (2013; World Premiere) by Frank Stemper (b. 1951)

Korean-born pianist Junghwa Lee received her Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees in Piano Performance from Seoul National University, and her Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Piano Performance and Literature from the Eastman School of Music. She is currently Associate Professor of Piano at Southern Illinois University Carbondale (SIU) where she is Director of SIU Summer Piano Camp and Summer Piano Competition.

Lee performs actively in solo recitals, chamber concerts and lecture recitals, and has frequently been concerto soloist, including appearances with the Korean Symphony Orchestra, Salina Symphony Orchestra, Greeley Philharmonic Orchestra and others. Lee has played solo recitals in Korea, Holland, France, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Thailand, Taiwan, China, the United Kingdom and the United States, including appearances at the Arts Center Concert Series at National Chiao Tung University in Taiwan, Shenyang Music Cultural Exchange Exhibition Between China and Foreign Countries Festival in China, Beethoven 32 Sonatas Recital Series in Singapore, the Dame Myra Hess Memorial Concert Series at the Chicago Cultural Center and her New York debut recital at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall as a winner of Artists International’s Special Presentation Award.
