Te Kōkī New Zealand School of Music (NZSM) presents their 2014 JaZzjAzZJazZ concert, the showcase highlight of the annual NZSM Jazz Festival.

LA-based stellar saxophonist Eric Marienthal is NZSM’s international guest artist this year and he will perform alongside NZSM staff and students and the award-winning NZSM Big Band, directed by the legendary Rodger Fox. Marienthal has played and recorded with the Grammy Award-winning Chick Corea Elektric Band, with Elton John, Barbara Streisand, Billy Joel, Stevie Wonder, Dionne Warwick, Burt Bacharach, BB King …

The New Zealand Youth Jazz Orchestra, directed by NZSM lecturer Dave Lisik, are also guest artists with their New York-based guest artist and tutor, Luis Bonilla. The California raised, Costa Rican trombonist, composer and arranger has sought out, taken in and mastered an incredible array of musical styles, as evidenced by his collaborations with such greats as McCoy Tyner, Dizzy Gillespie, Lester Bowie, Tom Harrell, Freddie Hubbard, Astrud Gilberto, Willie Colon and Toshiko Akiyoshi.

The concert is part of NZSM’s three-day Jazz Festival for New Zealand secondary school Jazz musicians, providing an opportunity for the next generation of jazz musicians to learn and develop the art form.
