A concert of opera music with a difference will be held on March 15 at Te Waimate Mission – the historic building and grounds cared for by the NZ Historic Places Trust.

The concert will be a musical commemoration of the 28th Maori Battalion and the 70th anniversary of the Battle at Monte Cassino, featuring Whangarei-born opera soloist Luke Bird and the Opera North singers.

The music will include singers performing a range of arias and well-known musical numbers that have love and family as their themes.

The concert will celebrate ‘Pride, Remembrance and Honour’ – values associated with our soldiers – and proceeds from the concert will go towards sending a delegation to Italy to honour our fallen who died in the battle of Monte Cassino.

Opera in the Park will take place at Te Waimate Mission Station, 344 Te Ahu Ahu Road, Waimate North, on Saturday March 15 from 3pm. Admission is $30 per adult, and $15 for children age 17 and under.

Tickets available from i-Site Paihia; i-Site Whangarei, and through gate sales at Te Waimate Mission on March 15.
