Set against Othello’s honesty, love and purity of principle this is as much a story of jealousy and a drama of manipulation. In Othello, Shakespeare created both his most poignant tragic hero and his darkest character. It is the traitor Iago who pulls the strings with unabashed wickedness and drives Othello to kill his wife Desdemona. As Othello’s adviser, Iago portrays an envious low ranking officer, full of bitterness who destroys lives just for the fun of it. He is a “bad guy” with no excuse other than his true depravity.

Staged under the stars in The PumpHouse Amphitheatre Much Ado About Nothing, one of Shakespeare’s most lively and delightful comedies alternates with Othello which transforms love into murderous jealousy.

Shoreside Theatre’s ever-popular summer season, now in its 18th year, of the greatest writer in the English language, is presented true to era.

It is real Shakespeare and all the more enthralling for that. Book for both shows – special discounts apply.
