Pasifika is a vibrant musical celebration of our region, Aotearoa New Zealand and the Pacific; our Tūrangawaewae: the place where we stand.

Involving more than 250 performers, Pasifika will be a large-scale production representing an epitome of cultural collaboration.

The Christchurch City Choir is excited to be joined by soloists Susan Densem (Christchurch) and Helen Medlyn (Auckland), Te Kotanitanga Kapa Haka, the Shirley Boys’ High School Pasifika Group, the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra, the University of Canterbury Chamber Choir – Consortia, and Burnside High School Senior Chorale.

The programme will begin with musical snapshots of New Zealand’s heritage; Māori karanga, haka and waiata. The Choir will then perform a traditional New Zealand folksong, arranged by Christchurch composer Richard Oswin, followed by Samoan sasa and slap dances.

As a true celebration of the Pacific Region, the second half is a performance of New Zealand Composer David Hamilton’s Missa Pacifica.
