Through a series of photographic images, Pater Invisibilis (invisible father) depicts Carl’s experiences of the forced separation from his two sons and the ensuing struggle to maintain a role and relationship in their lives.
The images pose questions around what it means to be a father and portray feelings of loss and betrayal.
The work is resolved through an installation reflecting the importance of family and relationships.
The exhibition is the culmination and final submission towards Carl’s three year degree in visual arts.
As a runner up in the 2013 New Zealand Institute of Professional Photography Student Category and gaining a silver award this year, Carl has quickly established himself as an artist to watch.
