The Tin Palace is hosting a pop up sonic snapshot experience through the medium of vinyl LPs.

"Play it" is a pop-up exhibition at the Tin Place featuring a display of loaned LPs together with the donors' thoughts and memories about the LPs. Visitors are encouraged to choose a record to be played and to leave a note about their thoughts / memories that the record evoked. Or simply tell us why you chose that record.

Unlike CDs or MP3s, record collections are in essence a personal art gallery of tastes and experiences filled with the good, bad and ugly. LPs are created to be listened to in full. They are mini sonic curations in their own right.

“Is it wrong, wanting to be at home with your record collection? It's not like collecting records is like collecting stamps, or beermats, or antique thimbles. There's a whole world in here, a nicer, dirtier, more violent, more peaceful, more colourful, sleazier, more dangerous, more loving world than the world I live in; there is history, and geography, and poetry, and countless other things I should have studied at school, including music.” ― Nick Hornby, High Fidelity
