Join us to explore Renaissance art commissions in the churches and courts of Padua, Milano, Mantua and Ferrara and the villa designs of Palladio. You will gain an insight into the patrons and artists who helped define the Renaissance. Giotto’s proto-Renaissance works in the Arena Chapel, Donatello’s bronzes at Padua, the creation of a specific image for a female consort in Mantua, the idiosyncratic court at Ferrara, Palladio’s grand villas and Leonardo da Vinci’s works in Milano are all examined.

If you are interested in art history generally, thinking of travelling to Italy or even coming on our North Italian Renaissance tour in September 2014, this course will provide contextual insights into the art of the Renaissance.
