New Zealand's Caldera volcanoes: past, present and future of a giant volcano

The talk will be presented by GNS volcanologists and Regional Council hazard managers. Themes to be covered will include, what is a caldera volcano and some aspects of the eruptive history of these in NZ (Taupo, Okataina), how the GeoNet project monitors them, and how we manage the potential issues these large volcanoes could create. This later topic is an introduction to the Caldera Advisory Group which has recently been established between The BOP and Waikato Regions, Taupo and Rotorua District Councils, the Ministry of Civil Defence and Emergency Management (MCDEM) and GNS/GeoNet.
