Sam Hunt
Pre-eminent NZ poet, Sam Hunt, was born at Castor Bay in 1946. These days, home-base is Kaipara Harbour - “five/ gunshots from humanity”.
As well as doing his acclaimed solo shows, Mr Hunt has worked with various musicians –Warratahs, Split Enz, Gareth Farr, NZSO - to name but a few.
In 2009, he collaborated with David Kilgour & The Heavy 8s, producing the LP ‘Falling Debris’. More recently, in March of this year - they teamed up again – this time SH providing lyrics & lead vocals for a new long player, entitled “The 9th” – due out in October.
In 1986, Sam was awarded a QSM; in 2010, a Companion of the NZ Order of Merit (CNZM). He was further festooned in 2012 with the Prime Minister’s Poetry Award. All honours were for “his services to poetry”.
Riki Gooch
Riki is undoubtedly at the very top of the percussion tree in the NZ music scene.
A talented arranger, producer and sticksman, most recently RG has turned his supremely talented drum hands to writing a brand new solo piece, specifically for these 3 live dates with Sam.
