About Sonia Green

Sonia Green started learning the piano when she was 7 years old. At age 16 she started her Bachelor degree studies in piano performance at the North West University for Nationalities, China. In 1998 she went to the Shanghai Music Conservatory and studied composition, music theory and piano performance. In 2001 she came to New Zealand to further her music study at Victoria University with American pianist Professor Dr Thomas Hecht. In 2002 she completed her Bachelor of Honours in Piano Performance, and then in 2005 she gained her Masters of Piano Performance.

Since then she has performed frequently both in New Zealand and in China. She has performed with the Wellington Orchestra and participated in the New Zealand Symphony orchestra’s recording work. She is also an experienced accompanist; she has been appointed the official accompanist for the Wellington Regional Brass competition since 2003.

Over the last 15 years of teaching, Sonia has taught students from many cultures and countries. Now a citizen of New Zealand and residing in Wellington, she is looking forward to providing more cultural exchange opportunities between China and NZ.
