Since basing herself in Germany, ex-Dunedin conductor Holly Mathieson's career has taken off, with recent highlights being assistant to Christoph von Dohnanyi (Philharmonia Orchestra, London) and Marin Alsop (Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment Prom, the BBCSO Last Night of the Proms, and the Sao Paolo Symphony Orchestra's recent European tour). Her first series concert with the Southern Sinfonia includes birthday celebrations for two composers: Richard Strauss and CPE Bach, 2014 being 150 years and 300 years since their respective births. Beethoven's 'Pastorale' symphony is a captivating portrayal of Austrian country life, depicting bird song, bubbling streams, a village festival, and a realistic thunderstorm.

Holly Mathieson...."a cohesive, flowing and thrillingly nuanced reading of the score"...
