The New Zealand Accordion Association has staged the New Zealand Accordion Championships and Festival since 1972. This year, the 2014 South Pacific International and New Zealand National Accordion Championships and Festival will be held over the Queen's Birthday Weekend.

This year, we have invited Mirco Patarini, world class accordionist to perform and judge the top classes during the competition. Mirco has enjoyed international success having won the Castelfidardo Italian Accordion Championship three times and won the CMA Trophee Mondiale (World Accordion Championship) when he was just 18 years of age. Mirco is also an accomplished concert artist with a repertoire ranging from classical acoustic to modern electronic and Midi accordion music. He has performed all over the world including throughout Italy, Germany, Switzerland, Spain, Holland, Great Britain, Russia, Norway, Sweden, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Egypt, Brasil, U.S.A & Canada, Japan and China. He has performed with celebrated musicians such as Luciano Pavarotti and Nicola Piovani.

Throughout the weekend we will have accordionists of all ages and levels performing and competing - several of whom are preparing for international competitions overseas. There will be Festival items, Soloists and Orchestras throughout the weekend. On Sunday afternoon there will be the finale concert, featuring Mirco Patarini as guest artist, the festival orchestras, class winners and other musical acts. On Sunday evening there will be a Formal Dinner during which we present trophies to the South Pacific Championship winners. This evening features a wealth of accordion entertainment and dancing, to cap off what is always a most exciting weekend.

Come along and enjoy a weekend of fun, friendship and of course, great music.
