Camerata Strings conducted by Patrick Shepherd

Come and celebrate the beginning of Spring (almost!) with the Camerata Strings in this programme of works by Sibelius, Gershwin, Albinoni and Christchurch composers Arion Pons, Richard Oswin and Patrick Shepherd.

Sibelius’ Romance in C was written around the time of his Violin Concerto and is a real gem, blending the dramatic with the lyrical. By contrast, Gershwin’s Lullaby is a relatively early work and rarely heard, which is a shame because it is a beautiful little cameo. Albinoni’s Sinfonia in G is a spritely Baroque 3-movement work, one of his better known compositions in this genre.

There are 3 Christchurch composers featured in this concert - Arion Pons (Monelith), Patrick Shepherd (Sinfonia da Camera) and a piece specially written for the group - and the unofficial “signature tune” of the orchestra - Moa Tango by Richard Oswin.
