Classes every Saturday

Open level Technique 2:00 - 3:15 PM every other Saturday
Teachers: Matthew Civil and Nina Bailarina
This class will cater to all levels, addressing you at your level. The aim is to maturing your dance. Emphasis will be on technique, to be able to truly access your potential as a creative dancer. $15 per class. Fundamentals class and Práctica are $ 5 each for course participants.

Open level Musicality 2:00 - 3:15 PM every other Saturday
Teachers: Matthew Civil and Monica Gomez
This class will aim to enhance your understanding of the musical style vs. the choice and style of movement and how to vary your movement according to the different styles of tango or even to the different orchestras. $15 per class. Fundamentals class and Práctica are $ 5 each for course participants.

Fundamentals 3:30 - 4:30 PM every Saturday
Teachers: Sanjay Pancha and Monica Gomez
This class is for beginners, and can also serve as review of fundamentals class for anyone who’s interested. We will go through the fundamentals of tango, which will give students a good foundation on which to go on to more advanced technique instruction. $15 per class or $100 for 8 classes. Práctica $5 for course participants.

Saturday Práctica 4:30 - 7:00 PM every Saturday
This is a relaxed space to try out new things; a chance to reinforce what you have learnd; an essential stepping-stone between learning new things and using them instinctively in a dance. Seek help, ask questions, stop and start, or simply dance. People at all levels drop in. $8 unless you have done one of the courses that day.

Your Teachers:
Matthew Civil was the first professional NZ stage tango champion and a semi-finalist in the 2006 World Championships in Buenos Aires. Starting to teach after a world study tour in 2001, Matthew finds delight in sharing his understanding of Tango. His experience encompasses all styles of tango and he has a command of a wide array of teaching methods.

Nina Bailarina started dancing tango in 2001. Since, she has become a feature in the Wellington Tango Scene, organizing regular milongas and special events. She has taught privately for some time. She has an understanding of both follower and leader roles. Nina is known for her intricate and subtle style on the dance floor.

Sanjay Pancha had his tango education mainly in New York where he worked and studied the violin. He brings a beautiful musicality to his dance and though thoroughly grounded in fundamentals and technique brings his own distinct style of dancing to the mix.

Monica Gomez started dancing tango in 2009, and set up Tango Aires dance club in Blenheim 2010 where she taught beginners and second step students till her departure to Wellington. Since her arrival here she has started a regular Milonga and Práctica and hosted a couple of workshops with international teachers. Her passion for dance shines.
