Te Kōkī NZSM Lunchtime - Galambos-Winter Violins Concert

Fri 8 Aug 2014, 12:10pm–1:00pm

Where: Adam Concert Room, NZSM Kelburn Campus, Victoria University, Gate 7, Kelburn Parade, Wellington

Restrictions: All Ages

Ticket Information:

  • Admission: Free

This concert showcases the fine instruments that the late Clare Galmbos-Winter left to the NZSM, and the fine students that are presently using them, undergraduate Julian Baker and one post-graduate James Jin. She also endowed two financial scholarships in string performance.

This special annual concert is in memory of Clare, who performed with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra for over 30 years, but who passed away earlier this year. Her support and interest in the musical community, especially of the school, was keenly felt and we will continue to honour her memory. You can see a video documentary about Clare and the gift of her violins, courtesy of Satellite Media, through the above link.

James Jin (DMA) will perform 'Nigun' from 'Baal Shem' by Ernest Bloch, and Beethoven's 'Sonata in A', opus 23, accompanied by fellow DMA student Xing.

Julian Baker (BMus) will perform 'Gyftiko' for solo violin by John Psathas, and Ysaye's 'Sonata 2' and the 1st movement of Mendelssohn's 'Concerto' accompanied by Rafaella Garlick-Grice.

The concert is free and members of the public are welcome.
