Rachel Dawick brings you her musical tales of NZ’s past, including songs from the soon to be released (May 2014) Boundary Riders: Tales of NZ Pioneer Women double album, and accompanying 50 page book that includes the script of the show, lyrics, links to the research and tales and photographs from on the road.

Now based 10km off the Forgotten World Highway in an old coal mining township of 129 people, Rachel brings new songs from her time there as well as songs from The Boundary Riders show album, which follows the journey of a range of infamous characters whose names largely unknown in our history pages reveal stories that would slip easily into any Wild West Adventure Book. From prostitutes to missionary wives, goldminers to magicians, these beguiling tales of conquests, survival, persistence, and the merging of peoples and cultures from far distant lands have all given birth to New Zealand as we know her today.

The historic trail began over two years ago when armed with a grant from Creative NZ Rachel embarked on a 40 day solo tour across the country, performing, collecting and digging up stories of women in 1800’s NZ. A second trip tested her own boundaries as she cycled the length of NZ from Cape Reinga to Bluff with only a ukulele and one person tent to her name, and 2000km to travel. The final leg of the journey involved a six-week tour with international multi-instrumentalist Jon Sanders working on the final arrangements of the songs and developing the final show that you will hear on disc 1 of the double album. In addition to Jon on Uke, harmonium, bouzuki and guitar, the album includes the talents of Andy Laking (Double Bass), Dave Khan (violin, mandolin and accordian), Chris Koole (percussion) and Rachel (Guitar, Vocals and narrator) and introducing Steve Bretel from Scotland as the narrator of the show.

Tonight's show is a solo performance from Rachel.

Along with the new album some special hand crafted victorian influenced merchandise will be available, celebrating the pioneer women and their lives, including waistcoats, bloomers, petticoats etc.
