The first ever Reggae By The River was a huge hit in January and we are back this December with the cream of the New Zealand reggae roots scene. The Black Seeds, Katchafire and Sons of Zion have joined forces to hit the sunny summer highway, playing hotspots around the nation.

With their infectious blend of soul, afro-funk and dub, with a side order of Windy City groove, The Black Seeds have gained a huge national following. Since forming in the late 90's they have released 5 albums and made huge inroads internationally, becoming a major draw on festivals in Europe and extensively touring the US. German press describe them as 'the best band of their type in the world'. They have recently been creating tracks for their highly anticipated 6th album due for release next year.

Katchafire have just completed a 24 date tour of the US and are known as one of the hardest working bands in New Zealand, and that work ethic has taken them from Hamilton to become a global roots reggae phenomenon. The all Maori reggae band, bring their pure classic sound to music lovers worldwide, delivering one of the most authentic reggae shows around today, which is cemented by four highly successful studio albums, multiple awards, platinum sales, and hit singles. Their sound is built on the foundations of classic roots reggae with an RnB/funk rub, mashing modern dancehall & slinky reggae pop. The band is one of THE best live acts you can see in Aotearoa. The momentum just continues to grow; there is no stopping the fire.

With their fusion of reggae, heavy rock, dub and funk, the Sons of Zion evolved from a Botany Downs garage band to one of the most popular acts of their genre. Their live stage presence has captivated audiences all over the country with their infectious sound, a mixture of reggae groove with melodic vocals, phat bass lines and heavily distorted guitar rifts. They will be bringing young blood to this incredible line up.

And there's more....we will be adding dub-tronic jungle dwellers ManaLion to the Taupo line-up. These boys have been touted as ‘the next big thing’ in dub and dirty roots, and once you have seen this band live, we think you will agree! Comprising of 3 kiwi brothers in arms, they met and still live in Sydney’s Northern beaches. Rather than working on their tans they are creating great music, with influences from Motown to Marley. Their debut album, Back in the Day, was released in mid-September and is already getting rave reviews. This band should definitely be on your watchlist.

Gates will open at 5pm and the event is family-friendly with Under 12’s able to attend free of charge. A range of food and beverages will be available on site, but concert-goers may bring sealed water and non-commercial food.
