University of Waikato lecturers offer different views on WWI in this series of lectures.

A political rush to war led to a tactical stalemate on the battlefield and the toll in human life soared beyond one that made any sense. The responses to the slaughter of the Great War were many and ranged from strategy to literature.

Developments in the technologies of killing in 1914-1918 prompted responses in law and international organization in the post-war period intended to give expression to a renewed desire for peace. But the perception of a mismatch between the devices of war and the instruments of peace has scarcely lessened in the 100 years since 1914.
