June 13 and 14 sees the return of the Great Winter Warm-Up Craft Market at the Army Drill Hall in Napier.

The group, consisting of Nicola Coulter, Michelle Ransom, Peter Coulter, Mel Stothers and Andy Heyward, formed to organise the successful Department of Curiosities and Fine Things in Napier at the start of this year. Building off the success of the shop and past mid-winter markets they have collaborated again to bring you a curated collection of over 35 stalls each selling unique handmade products.

“The benefits of shopping at a market are many”, says organiser Andy Heyward of Fat Spatula, “You get to purchase your products direct from the people who make and create them. Quite often without the markup and commissions associated with buying through a third party retailer. Each stall holder is passionate about their creations and are there to present the best of what they do. There is a great variety of products from soaps to furniture to clothing to funky crochet - all handmade with pride. These are usually original one-off pieces - not mass produced, so they have character and they have that human-touch, often lost with the big retailers.”

“There has been a real resurgence with handmade crafts and design, it is no longer just your Nana busting out the knitting needles or sewing machine,”says Andy. “All ages are finding ways to use these tools to create new and interesting things, often with refreshing ideas and results.”

The group have carefully selected a variety of stalls from local makers and will be open for only two-days, Friday evening from 5 - 9pm and Saturday from 10am - 3pm. “We have done the best we can in getting these makers and creators stalls together, now we need the support of the public in coming along. To help with this we have decided to entice shoppers with free Hot-Chocolate as they browse the stalls, plus the first 30 shoppers through the doors on Friday will receive a goody bag with a variety of donated products and vouchers.”says Andy “We also hope to have live music on Friday evening to add to the atmosphere.”

The Great Winter Warm-Up Craft Market is being held at the Army Drill Hall on Coote Road, Napier. Friday June 13, from 5pm - 9pm and Saturday June 14, from 10am - 3pm. For more information visit the facebook page www.facebook.com/MadeItHereNapier or email made.it.here.napier@gmail.com
