It’s back!! The return of the irascible, incorrigible and highly entertaining Hellhole of the Pacific!!
Once again Russell residents will don the dress and reenact the time when this quaint little village was infamous.

Step into history with a wild and wooly weekend of fun in Russell when the Hell Hole of the Pacific again turns back time to 1830 -1847. For two mornings 25 and 26 January and again the 22-23 of February, the streets of Kororareka will come alive with street theater characters like Captain Brind whose tales of love and loss blend with stories of the whalers from afar.

Witness the first duel ever fought in New Zealand when Ben Turner and Joel Pollack face each other across the sand. Walk the streets to one of the earliest brothels encountering flirtatious strumpets along the way. Be advised of finable offenses such as spitting in public or undue loitering.
Meet our missionaries, gamblers, townspeople, temperance workers and strumpets. Take part in our tart's contest (creating the most delectable and tempting treat), enjoy a specialty grog in our establishments and peruse our shops.

Come prepared for fun and wonderful entertainment as the Hellhole promises to be a weekend you will remember!!

This is just plain fun; no fees, no tickets required.
