West Auckland folk trio The Nukes host an international ukulele concert at café One2One featuring the very special guest of the NZ Ukulele Festival "Victoria Vox" (USA), multi-instrumentalist Nigel Gavin and Australian uke virtuoso AJ Leonard with cellist Jenny Rowlands.

Victoria tours the world and has been invited by the NZ Ukulele festival as a feature artist at this year’s festival.

Here is what Vintage guitar magazine (USA) has to say about her:
“An undercurrent of toughness, a beautiful voice, great melodies and loads of charm make her unique folk/pop music impossible to resist – “

Victoria will be joined in concert by west Auckland’s own ukulele folkies ‘The Nukes’, fresh from touring NZ with their second album ‘Lucky Ones’. Featured recently on Radio NZ’s NZ Live segment with Simon Mercep.

Reviews have been glowing about their new material
“ Highly intriguing and really skilful- a great mix of folk, bluegrass and reggae.”. Grant Smithies
NZ Musician has to say (Aug / Sept issue)

“Lucky ones is a revelation…..“a variety of beautifully arranged and harmonised songs, that are unpretentious, kiwi-as, yet neatly avoiding the instruments clichéd cutesiness”.

Nigel Gavin will contribute his own brand of quirky, instrumental genius to proceedings while AJ Leonard with partner Jenny Rowlands on cello will present a mix of tradtional ukulele styles and innovative takes on popular music (like AJ’s interpretation of the Beatles ‘Sgt Peppers’).

This will be a very special addition to the NZ Ukulele Festival in the intimate surroundings of Ponsonby’s One2One café.
