The 144th Waipu Highland Games is the biggest in the Southern Hemisphere. It is held right through Thursday the 1st January. New Years Day.
The Grand Entry and street march is at 9 a.m. Bands enter the ground from the main street.
The Highland Heavy Weight events start in the main arena at 9.30 with the Highland Stone Throw.
Followed by the Hammer Toss and the Caber Toss.
There are several Highland and National Dancing competitions on throughout the day.
Piping, Drumming and Fiddling events run through the day.
Have a Go events for children where they can Hurl a Hairy Haggis, Toss a caber and hurl a hammer...a free event in Arena 2
The Ballistic Blondes Sky Dive Team will drop in wearing kilts at 12.15. Be there to be thrilled.
Massed bands and a massed highland fling along with the singing of the Flower of Scotland will be at 12.30
Tartan in the Park fashion parade at 2.00. Come along to enter!
Tug o War..register a team of 5
At night the Ceilidh will be held in the Caledonian Hall at 7. Dance to the music of Twisty Willow
There will be Clan tents where you can check your genealogy and buy Scottish momentos along with Scottish food.
Bring a rug and enjoy the food available while you watch the events unfurl.
On rain or shine...shelter if showers in the new huge Celtic Barn
