With the goal of eliminating men’s violence towards women, White Ribbon “aims to change men’s attitudes and behaviours, predominantly through men talking to men”. It asks individual men to “make it clear to other men that you do not tolerate violence towards women”. White Ribbon is a deliberate attempt to undermine the social norms of men who support violence, and strengthen male norms that are non-violent. This year White Ribbon is focusing on healthy/respectful relationships and the issue of consent for its campaign.

Therefore, on Sunday the 22nd, three White Ribbon ambassadors have been invited to attend our White Ribbon Family Day picnic and concert at Harcourt Park, located at Akatarawa Road, Upper Hutt. Our local kaumatua will open our event. Live entertainment will then be performed by a diverse range of local ethnic cultural groups, dance performers and solo artists. Three distinguished White Ribbon ambassadors will speak at our event about the White Ribbon messages and pledges against violence towards Women in our community. Other activities offered at our event for the children, young people and their families include free bouncy castles, face painting, sausage sizzle, candy floss, food, cold drinks and white ribbon endorsements. A diverse range of local voluntary, community and Government organisations will be offering their time and resources also.

This is a Smoke Free, No Drug, No Alcohol and Sun Smart Event that endorses "Men Against Violence Towards Women".
