Sir James Wallace Invites you to attend a very special Benefit Concert for Edward Laurenson to support his training at the prestigious Guildhall School of Music and drama in London.

Edward Laurenson is a 26 year-old baritone from Auckland, New Zealand, currently studying at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama in London under the tutelage of Yvonne Kenny. As a member of the Chapman Tripp Opera Chorus from 2009 to 2014 Edward performed in New Zealand Opera’s seasons of Eugene Onegin, Rigoletto, The Bartered Bride, Madame Butterfly, Die Fliegende Holländer and Don Giovanni. During the period 2012-13 he was a Freemasons Dame Malvina Major Emerging Artist and had opportunities to understudy and cover lead roles, as well as perform a minor role in Madame Butterfly. In 2012 Edward was awarded Vocal National Young Performer of the Year by the Performing Arts Competitions Association of New Zealand (PACANZ), and the Lieder prize at the New Zealand Aria competition. Other achievements include winning the Guildhall Prize at the IFAC Australian Singing Competition and the New Zealand Opera Circle 100 Scholarship in 2013. In 2014 he placed as a finalist in the New Zealand Lexus Song Quest and won the prestigious Becroft Grand Aria Competition. Edward comes to opera through musical theatre and has performed lead roles in The Sound of Music, West Side Story and Grease. Edward would like to acknowledge the support of the Dame Kiri Te Kanawa Foundation.
