Find out more about the fascinating history of of jazz in this new series that began its life as four live recorded Radio New Zealand sessions.

Featuring some of New Zealand’s top jazz thinkers and performers – the series begins with the birth of jazz in the late 19th century and takes listeners through to the “Jazz Age” of the 1920s.

Speakers present the story of jazz, explain some of its technical mysteries and give insight into the social context behind the music. Interwoven among the discussion, a jazz quintet performs examples of works. Guest musicians include: Lex French (trumpet / cornet), Ben Wilcock (piano), John Rae (drums), Jake Baxendale (clarinet / sax), and Andrew Laking (double bass).
