Mana wahine, mana takatapui, mana tangata.
A show about our gender experiences.

A Stage of One’s Own is a theatre festival empowering all to identify with gender freely. It’s a ritual ceremony of encounter, coming back to our ancestors, to Te Kurawaka, the pubic bone of Papatuanuku, to reclaim the arrival of women through the river of blood that makes us sacred. ‘Come back to the origin, so that we can sort a few things out…’ says one director, Bea Joblin.

The performance is carried by a cast in four parts, who grant radical permission for unheard stories to surface- and provide an opportunity to engage in this wananga with your own experience at the forefront.

Under 16s please check with Mum and Dad - or even bring them along!

A Stage of One’s Own exposes the distortion that exists within the gender binaries that we have inherited, and rejects them. Clowns are facetious in their overt commentary of our arbitrary assigning of gender roles. Women create an environment of safety inside a curvaceous collaborative reality which literally holds a place for everyone.

A Stage of One's Own is coming to the Hutt after an awesome season at Bats Theatre in Wellington, August 2015. With four new directors (Bea Joblin, Lily della Porta, Sabrina Martin and Jody Burrell), A Stage of One's Own celebrates a multiplicity of voices theatrically and invitingly!
