Tūhurahia te arapū Māori | Explore the Māori Alphabet

AEIOU is an entertaining, family exhibition all about the Māori alphabet. Enjoy learning Māori words through a diverse mix of objects from the Rotorua Museum collection. From Aotearoa (New Zealand) to whare (house), ngata (snail) to hoiho (horse) visitors will enjoy exploring this fun mix of items from a different perspective.

A key feature of the exhibition will be a large James Turkington mural, originally displayed at Rotorua Airport, where visitors can enjoy trying to identify things starting with each of the 15 letters of the Māori alphabet.

Local Rotorua artist Kereama Taepa has created unique designs for all the letters of the Māori alphabet, and as well as the numbers 0 to 9. These will be a special highlight throughout the exhibition.

AEIOU was developed by Rotorua Museum Te Whare Taonga o Te Arawa and will be on display from 21 November 2015 until 1 May 2016.
Entry to the exhibition is included in Rotorua Museum’s admission price, which is free for Rotorua residents with relevant ID. General Museum admission: Adults $20, seniors $18 and children $8.
