Guest Speaker: Annette Kendall.

It doesn’t matter how fast or free your internet is in a rural community, without an entrepreneurial supportive culture our provinces will die. In fact, Annette Kendall has (somewhat controversially) gone so far as to say rural people are killing rural towns. After having dropped out of rural high-school at the age of 16 to pump gas in a petrol station, Annette is now part of a select global group of people identified as providing thought leadership in new approaches to regional economic development.

Annette’s expertise is sought out by researchers, councils, government organisations, businesses and individuals contemplating the problem of how to facilitate entrepreneurship and innovation in regions facing the future with an ageing population and a mass exodus of its young and talented people to the cities. In August this year she begins a three year position at the University of Missouri conducting research in collective entrepreneurship within primary industry.

At this seminar, Annette will share some insights from her latest research as she attempts to bring awareness to three commonly held beliefs that she proposes are working to restrict the development of regional New Zealand.

Discovering opportunities, exploring possibilities.
