Air New Zealand 75 Years: Our nation. The world. Connected

Check in for a journey back in time – and into the future – with Air New Zealand.

On 30 April 1940, a flight from Auckland to Sydney marked the first scheduled air link between New Zealand and the rest of the world. Air New Zealand 75 Years tells the story of how that fledgling flight led to what is today an award winning international airline.

Let this dynamic, interactive exhibition take you through the decades – from flying boats to the very latest Dreamliner aircraft, and into the future. Explore inspiring stories of the airline’s growth and innovation, and experience the highs and lows along the way, through the lens of Air New Zealanders themselves.

Fashion lovers can follow the trends throughout the decades brought to life by the airline’s uniforms – from the early military styles, the elegant days of 1960s Dior, funky seventies outfits, and of course today’s glamorous Trelise Cooper designs which are available for you to try on.

Mixed media displays – screen-printed posters and historic films – capture the romance and glamour of flying boat services to the tropics as part of the celebrated Coral Route, and a replica Solent cabin allows visitors to get a real feel for the luxury of flying in the fifties.

Back in the present, a Dreamliner display welcomes you to curl up in the Skycouch™ or kick back in the comfort of a Business Premier seat.

If aviation is your thing, make sure you check out the motor, driveshaft and propeller from Richard Pearse’s original aircraft as well as the exposed Boeing 737 jet engine. Big screens bring you the daring flights of the pioneering aviators.

In one of the world’s most competitive industries, our national carrier is not only surviving, it’s thriving. Find out about the innovation and uniquely Kiwi service that sets Air New Zealand apart and its vision for what the future of air travel holds – virtual reality inflight entertainment.

Air New Zealand believes that it flies people, not planes – which means this exhibition is just as much your history as it is Air New Zealand’s. Tell us about your most memorable flight, sketch out ideas for a new safety video, or try your hand at designing new aircraft livery.

This is a once-in-a-lifetime adventure. Ready to board?
