Hear from the creative brains behind some of Air New Zealand’s most ground-breaking ideas – from aircraft seat design to safety video production.

Dave McRobie, Innovation Manager

Dave works on emerging information technology in air travel. He has helped make innovations such as the AirNZ mobile app, the mobile coffee app, digital touch points at airports such as the kiosk, straight to gate, remote checkin and bag drop. He was a member of the entry into service team for the B787-9 Dreamliner, and advises on cabin passenger technologies such as inflight entertainment platforms and cabin broadband connectivity. Dave worked as technology advisor for the 75th Anniversary Exhibition.

Gavin Balasingam, Deputy Head of Engineering, AIM Altitude

Gavin Balasingam is the Deputy Head of Engineering at AIM Altitude (New Zealand) and has been involved in the design and engineering of Air New Zealand aircraft interiors for 17 years. It was the innovation journey that culminated in the 2010 delivery of Air New Zealand’s first Boeing 777-300ER aircraft that really captured the imagination of the project team, the company and the travelling public.

Matt Dickinson, Managing Director, TRUE

Matt looks after creative and production for the brand and sponsorship team at Air New Zealand and a major, ongoing component of that is the iconic safety video. Matt and his team have worked closely with the airline on many of its safety videos including the most recent Hobbit-inspired video 'The Most Epic Safety Video Ever Made'.

Carrie Hurihanganui, GM Customer Experience

Carrie joined Air New Zealand in 1999 and has held a number of key leadership roles within cabin crew management, airport and airline operations, marketing, and service delivery. She has recently been involved in the design process for the upcoming refurbished lounges and the mobile coffee app.

Captain David Morgan, Chief Flight Operations & Safety Officer

David joined Air New Zealand in 1985 and after operating various aircraft types in both line and training roles he became a member of the Flight Operations management team in 1996. Now as Chief Flight Operations & Safety Officer he is responsible for determining, implementing and reporting on both operational safety and the safety of Air New Zealanders. David has been involved in the innovation of flight operations for the 787-9 Dreamliner.
