Award-winning early music ensemble, Affetto is based in Auckland, and comprises of five leading early music exponents. The combination of soprano, harpsichord, cornetto, viola da gamba and theorbo provides an engaging range of sound colours and allows for flexibility of interpretation.

Formed in 2010, the group has quickly become known for innovative and uplifting programming, beauty of sound, and for bringing some often forgotten music to life in new ways.

The Femme Fatale programme takes a glimpse into royal courts of the 16th and 17th centuries through the psyche and passion of two notorious women, Barbara Strozzi and Lady Macbeth and also includes a premiere of a new work, Lady Macbeth, composed for the ensemble by Janet Jennings.

A Play Upon Words is a programme that explores works from the Baroque era, when the birth of opera lead the way for a dramatic shift in the way music and words worked together.

Affetto has participated in the Auckland Fringe Festival twice, both times winning the award for “Best Musical Production”.
