Musical Friends Play In a Friendly Place - Amici Ensemble At Paekakariki - Mozart, Penderecki, Faure.

The Amici Ensemble is Donald Armstrong and his friends. The performers are all of the highest quality - three principal players with the NZ Symphony Orchestra and leading chamber musicians on the New Zealand music scene.

Says Mulled Wine Concerts organiser Mary Gow "The word "Amici" is Italian for "friends" - our next concert will be a very special outing for these four friends in super-friendly Paekakariki".

Amici are Donald Armstrong (violin), Associate Concertmaster with the NZSO, together with violist Andrew Thomson and cellist Andrew Joyce, both of whom are principals with the NZSO and pianist Jian Liu, a sought-after virtuoso concert pianist who is Senior Lecturer in Piano at Te Kōkī, New Zealand School of Music

The group will present a top-level chamber music concert at the beach-side Paekakariki Memorial Hall on Sunday 19 July at 2:30 PM. On the programme is a favourite Piano Quartet No 2 by Mozart together with The String Trio by Penderecki and Piano Quartet No 1 by Faure.

Mozart virtually invented the genre of Piano Quartet - piano plus three string players, and this quartet remains one of the great pieces for this combination. Faure wrote the C minor Piano Quartet in the late stages of his engagement to Pauline Viardot. The relationship didn’t survive, much to Faure’s disappointment, but the piano quartet has become a favourite. It is written in late romantic style and contains florid piano writing and sweeping melodies for the strings.

The Memorial Hall at Paekakariki is an informal and intimate concert venue with sparkling acoustics, easy parking and unrivalled views of Kapiti Island and the beautiful coastline. Many visitors like to combine an afternoon's concert-going with a walk on the beach and lunch in one of the village's trendy eateries. Mary Gow says "We believe that this concert will be one of the highlights of our 2015 season and urge concert-goers to become a part of this sure-to-please experience". In the tradition of this small and friendly concert series, mulled wine is served at half-time.

Mulled Wine Concerts present the Amici Ensemble at 2:30 PM on 19 July at the Paekakariki Memorial Hall, The Parade, Paekakariki.
