Amici Ensemble to play an All-bach Programme In Waikanae
The popular Amici Ensemble will return to play for the Waikanae Music Society on Sunday 22 March with a rare treat in the form of a programme solely devoted to the music of J S Bach.
Bach, one of the greatest composers of all time, wrote an enormous quantity of music ranging from the tiny keyboard pieces he composed for his children to mighty choral works such as the St Matthew Passion. The Waikanae concert will feature a selection of some of his best-known and best-loved instrumental works, such as the fifth Brandenburg Concerto and the Air from the Orchestral Suite No 3 – better known as the famous “Air on the G String”. Another piece filled with familiar tunes will be the Suite No 2 in B minor, in which the flute plays a starring role.
The Amici Ensemble, led by NZSO Associate Concertmaster Donald Armstrong, has had a very special relationship with Waikanae Music Society over many years. This year the ensemble will be augmented to 9 players, with prominent NZSO string and wind players, including Bridget Douglas (flute) and Robert Orr (oboe), as well as early music specialist Douglas Mews on harpsichord.
The concert, in the Waikanae Memorial Hall, starts at 2.30pm. Door sales will be available or tickets can be purchased at Waikanae New World, Moby Dicketns Books in Paraparaumu Beach or at Lush Design Gallery in Raumati.
