Ladies come and join us. Rt Hon Dame Jenny Shipley will speak on inspiring women into leadership at a special event at the Copthorne Hotel and Resort Bay of Islands on 28 May.

Deputy Mayor Tania McInnes and Annika Dickey of Whitelaw Weber are hosting the event to provide inspiration and encouragement for women, particularly those in business. “We have amazing women in Northland and we want to provide a platform to encourage and inspire women to be all they can be.”

We are delighted that the Far North will get to hear New Zealand’s first female Prime Minister speak. Dame Jenny is today a director, advisor and keynote speaker with a special interest in mega trends in business, economic and social development opportunities in Northland, New Zealand and globally. She runs her own consultancy and chairs a number of New Zealand companies, including Genesis Energy, China Construction Bank New Zealand, Oravida NZ and Senior Money International. She was an independent director at China Construction Bank, a Global Fortune 500 company, for 6 years. Despite these responsibilities, Dame Jenny also gives her time to a number of causes. She is the retiring chair of Global Women New Zealand, a member of the World Women’s Leaders Council and also Vice President of the Club of Madrid, a group of 100 former presidents and prime ministers. The latter two groups work in many countries where they promote democracy, the advancement of women and social and economic improvement. Dame Jenny is also patron of the Sir Edmund Hilary Outdoor Pursuits Centre and the NZ Heart Foundation’s ‘Go Red for Women’ health initiative. She also established an education trust that supports schools in Northern Namibia.

The event will also see the launch of the Bay of Islands Women’s Nexus, a breakfast club for women in business, aimed at growing leadership and connection through inspiring interaction.

Ticket price covers a beverage and canapes.
Men are also very welcome.
