2015 Margaret Mahy Book of the Year award winner chats with Penny Jackson...

The 2014 winner of the Katherine Mansfield Fellowship, Mandy Hager has written nine novels, as well as short stories and scripts. She won the Esther Glen Award for Fiction for Smashed and Best Young Adult Book in the 2010 NZ Post Book Awards for The Crossing, the first in the popular Blood of the Lamb trilogy.

Her latest books deal with the arts – Dear Vincent (2015) is about painting, suicide and Vincent Van Gogh, while her award-winning Singing Home the Whale (2014) chronicles Hager’s passion for music and conservation. Hager is this year’s writer in residence at Waikato University.
