Arts on Wednesday presents a wholly original, thoughtful, provocative yet respectful performance about sexual consent, and the everyday contexts on campus and around town in which it is a pervasive issue. Devised by students in the creative activism paper Creativity in the Community, this performance will demonstrate the effectiveness of creative work to make us think differently and change our world for the better. In the words of the student creators: “Rape culture is here. It isn’t always loud or clear, but it affects even those of us who don’t realise our part in it. Through film, short story, and spoken word poetry, this 20 minute artistic performance explores the angles and manifestation of rape culture while investigating ways to push our society beyond it. Out of respect for survivors, the performance creators have refrained from highly graphic content.”

Come along to Arts on Wednesday and be part of something really special – the debut performance from Creativity in the Community, on a topic that could not be more relevant or important for our immediate community. This has been a challenging as well as uplifting journey for the students – please support them in lending your ears and eyes to the sensitive, moving and empowering end result.

Light finger-food lunch provided.

A small koha for Wellington Rape Crisis, the chosen community partner for this semester’s Creativity in the Community, would be appreciated.
