The Bachboys Folk Rock music revue is becoming an annual event at the Kiwi International Hotel and is scheduled this year for Sat June 20th. The Bachboys, a seasoned band of musicians grew up playing music together and studying ( in that order of priority ) at Otago University in the late 60's /early 70's. They made good music and significant sums of money to pay their way through tertiary education and have kept in touch as friends and musicians to this day. Some say they have even more time to play now and therefore are sounding better than ever.

The line-up includes Dick Rax on keyboard, Gordon Spittle guitar, Steve Brett on bass, Lawry Brett vocals and guitar, John Jukes drums, Eddie Mee trumpet, Leith Oliver tenor saxophone, Andrew Miller alto sax, Peter Charlton-Jones guitar and Rob Maunsell acoustic guitar, backing vocals and harmonica. The show on Sat 20th will include Eyreton Hall, a formidable folk duo from Auckland, Grafia ( "get right away from it all" ), a band of musical collaborators and songwriters from the Wairarapa, playing some of their originals and favourite blues and Irish covers. The local artists also adding to the musical colour of the evening are Arnse Cassrels, Devonport singer/ songwriter and Gary Hill and Rob Hay who from time to time are backing musicians for The Tangerines.
Grafia, with assistance from key Bachboys men, will play a set including several originals mid evening, see bio following.

The Folk Rock Music Review starts at 7.00pm and goes till late . We are asking patrons to contribute $10 each towards our travel and set up costs. Bar prices are reasonable, the service is great, and the restaurant food is especially good. It would be lovely to share the evening with you, please let your friends know about it and drag them along if possible.

Grafia's Story, beginning by a fire.
Grafia is acronym for "Get right away from it all". It is also a group of musicians and artists, photographers, designers, video/film makers, writers and poets who love to express themselves collectively which results in the band's songs being written, played and illustrated. This group so far has had about fifteen contributors and we have recently made our first recording of original songs. It's five years since we started playing songs together and organising performances and concerts. Alot of fun has been had and our ability to entertain and play music that is both listenable to and exciting is now obvious. This is due to the devotion of several key members of the group.

The core trio of Rob, Keith Austin and Stephan Schultz are currently working on a collection of original songs, written by Rob and arranged by the trio at their weekly practice sessions at Rob's home in Masterton where the three of them live. Titles of the songs include "Think about it", a thought provoking boogie blues led by Keith on piano, "The Archivist" a folk ballard with a memorable chorus, and " Quietly going blues", an ode to Rob's father, John, set in an extended slow-tempo blues form. The recording has been done at Rob's home with contributions by several friends namely Stephan Brown, Jordan Tredray and Lenny Te Whare, all skilfully managed by Lorenzo Buhne with his technical producer hat on and his co- techno conspirator Benni Krueger.

The performances Grafia has created over the last five years have included many other local musicians and bands from near and further, eg. Wellington (not so far), Palmerston North, Auckland, Gisborne, Hawkes Bay and London. Together with their artist, photograher, video maker, A J Hunter, who covers the gammit of artistic needs from poster design, photograhy, video imagery, screen presentations and website development, Grafia is playing with an inspiring palate of musical offerings that are bound to appeal to many and varied tastes.
