Members of the public are invited to take a walk down memory lane as the Blind Foundation celebrates 125 years of life changing service.

Offices of the Blind Foundation will be holding a free exhibition showcasing the history of the organisation which will be open to all.

The exhibitions will run from July 1 to 15 and will be open from 10am to 12pm

The exhibitions will have a visual, tactile and some aural displays showcasing some highlights and milestones over the last 125 years. Items on display will include historical photographs, braille typewriters, talking book machines and much more.

Blind Foundation Board Chairman Rick Hoskin is sure the exhibition will prove to be very popular.
“The Blind Foundation has a proud history of providing support and direction to people who are blind or have low vision,” he says.

“We’ve come a long way as an organisation and it’s great to be able to share our unique story with communities throughout New Zealand.

The Blind Foundation was founded in Auckland in 1890. Since then, the Blind Foundation has equipped Kiwis who are blind or have low vision with the mobility tools, adaptive skills, technology and resources they need to lead independent lives.

As part of the Blind Foundation's 125th anniversary celebrations, events are being held in communities around the country.
