Blue, Desi & Liz love to garden, but somehow art has taken over their lives and gardening has taken a back seat.

Blue recycles organic materials, transforming these using clay, into representations of foliage and other forms associated with house ‘n garden.

Desi, through textiles, takes a post-colonial perspective working with the dichotomy of Victorian grandeur in colonial outposts and the introduction of noxious weeds and animals. This is particularly relevant in Auckland, which was declared to be the weediest city in the world by Landcare Research in 2006.

Liz uses clay to hand build forms that celebrate landscape and the flora and fauna within, often in a historical context.

The Three Lazy Gardeners take a typical early New Zealand settlement like Devonport and casts an eye over its transition of place and time, examining built and natural environments.
