“The players gave unstintingly of their passion and energies, playing with a spirit so transformational you felt they were actually improving the world.” The Strad, October 2012

The Brodsky Quartet’s spirited and virtuosic artistry has ensured them a place at the very forefront of the international chamber music scene. Bringing a taste of their home country, they will be performing works by Purcell and Britten, alongside some of the greatest string quartets of all time. Be drawn into their passionate exploration of the monumental late Beethoven quartet: Opus 131, considered an emotional marathon.

“We have chosen two little-known English gems. Purcell's Chaconne, arranged by Benjamin Britten and the inspiration behind his own Chacony from the 2nd Quartet, is a study in simplicity and purity of texture, yet contains harmonies and dissonance belying its age. Britten's Poème, a soaring conversation between three players over a pulsating 2nd violin pedal, is part of an early classically-based quartet, written when the composer was only 13: this movement alone sees into the future of Britten's unique language.” - Brodsky Quartet.

Since their formation in 1972, the Brodsky Quartet have given over 3000 concerts and released more than 60 recordings. Sharing their energy and craftsmanship with the next generation, they are currently International Fellows of Chamber Music at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.

An intense evening of brilliance and intimacy.
