Join Ruth Meier and Rosemary McLeod in conversation as they discuss buttons, textiles and the art of collecting. This will be followed by afternoon tea and a chance for visitors to show Ruth their own special buttons and hear more about their history.

Local Lower Hutt resident Ruth Meier has amassed an internationally renowned button collection achieved over forty years of collecting. All That Jazz: Deco Highlights from the Ruth Meier Button Collection is on show at The Dowse until 23 January 2016.

Rosemary McLeod is one of New Zealand's best-known journalists, with a long career in both print and broadcast media. A keen needlewoman and avid vintage textile collector, Rosemary has written two books on the topic. Her book, Thrift to Fantasy: Home Textile Crafts of the 1930s­–1950s won the history category of the Montana Book Awards in 2006 and her most recent, With Bold Needle and Thread: Adventures in Vintage Needlecraft (2013) offers a social history context for a range of craft projects from the 1920s to 1950s
